How Does Your Garden Grow Ceramic Planter
Project type
Ceramic sculptural planter
Date
October 2023
Location
Penrith
This stoneware ceramic planter was a special piece, inspired by the well known, medieval nursery ryhme, 'Mary Mary Quite Contrary' my entry for the Potfest Potters Competition in 2023.
Some say, like many nursery rhymes of the time, this possibly has some dark, historical and political origins related to the time.
The main body was built with large hand rolled coils, then other elements added using press moulding, coiling, hand modelling and texturing, resulting in a freestanding sculptural piece, that could be planted into, combining human and plant like elements woven in with the words 'how does your garden grow' lifted from the poem itself.
This piece was sold at the event.
